$583

That's how much it's going to cost me to get one polio shot and three Hep A/B combo shots before January 1 for my trip to India.

Why so much? Because my health insurance, Humana (aka Satan), won't cover a dime if the REASON for immunizations is for foreign travels.

Seriously, what is the point of having health insurance?

Oh and of course they won't cover anything that would happen to me over there.

Luckily I found travel insurance for $77. And then I get to spend $93 on a Visa.

I just have to remind myself that this will be the trip of a lifetime, even though it's seemingly putting me in more and more debt. Gah.

  1. It definitely costs a good chunk of change to go overseas, which is why I haven't had many opportunities. But just think about what you'll get out of it. And India?! How fantastic!

  2. Meghan - if you're just looking for a Visa to fund for spending money, look into a Bank of America checking account with a Visa debit card. I used one in Paris this spring, and it worked flawlessly. The key is to see if there are any banks that have a relationship with BofA. Check out TripAdvisor.com if you haven't already. Good luck!

  3. My brother had to deal with this when going to Europe for the summer.. and then South Korea to teach. If you want I can find out who he used for his travel insurance and what kinda rates he had. Sadly enough, most travel insurance (unless your business is covering it) doesn't cover terrorist attacks either. But.... YOU GET TO GO TO INDIA.. which pretty much just rocks so it's well worth it! Have a blast!

  4. Can't figure out if "anonymous" works for BofA or TripAdvisor. Or perhaps is the account exec for both???

  5. I'd like to start my own medical insurance company. It's going to have awesome coverage for not a lot of money.

I'm a manager at a local car Dealership here in Jersey and we're pretty much dropping Health Insurance all together. Schmucks.
